$250,000 WILL HELP CREATE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
FOR PEOPLE SEEKING ADDICTIONS TREATMENT
The Behavioural Health Foundation Inc., with the help of a $250,000 contribution from the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI), has acquired five transitional housing units in St. Norbert for people who, because of their situation, are at risk of becoming homeless. The funding is being provided under the Government of Canada's Supporting Communities Partnership Initiative (SCPI), under the National Homelessness Initiative.

GOVERNMENT OF CANADA INVESTS OVER $637,000 THROUGH THE WHHI TO HELP WINNIPEG'S HOMELESS
The Honourable Ron J. Duhamel, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Secretary of State (Francophonie & Western Economic Diversification), on behalf of the Honourable Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of Labour and Federal Co-ordinator on Homelessness, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing $637,406 in homelessness-related projects through the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI). The announcement was made jointly with Tim Sale, Manitoba Minister of Family Services and Housing; and Glen Murray, Mayor of the City of Winnipeg.

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON AFFORDABLE NEW INFILL HOUSING IN WINNIPEG
Families with low and moderate-incomes in the Lord Selkirk and Spence neighbourhoods will soon benefit from affordable, energy-efficient infill housing to be built in Winnipeg's inner city. The project is being made possible by the help of close to $550,000 in funding assistance from the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI), and the Winnipeg Development Agreement (WDA).

Residents in the Spence neighbourhood will benefit from housing revitalization and access to emergency shelter and transitional housing, and residents throughout the city will benefit from expanded food bank services with over $2 million in funding from the Government of Canada, Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg, through the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI).

UNIVERSITY OF WINNIPEG OPENS SECOND PHASE OF STUDENT HOUSING
University of Winnipeg students now have more safe, affordable housing choices with today's opening of four newly renovated residences for 32 students in the Spence neighbourhood. The project was made possible with up to $432,000 in funding assistance from the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI).

REFURBISHED HOME WILL BENEFIT PARTICIPANTS OF NEW DIRECTIONS PROGRAM
A newly-renovated home in Winnipeg that will provide much-needed, affordable housing for low-income residents participating in the New Directions for Children, Youth and Families Apartment Living program, was officially opened today. The home was purchased and renovated by the Westminster Housing Society Inc. with funding from the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI).
