OVER $1.1 MILLION WILL SPARK CONSTRUCTION OF 22 NEW, AFFORDABLE, ENERGY-EFFICIENT HOMES IN WINNIPEG'S INNER CITY
Low-to-moderate income households will soon have access to additional safe and affordable housing in Winnipeg with the construction of 22 new, energy-efficient homes in the Daniel McIntyre, Sargent Park, St. Matthews and Weston neighbourhoods. The project is supported with over $1.1 million from the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg, through the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI). Total project costs are estimated at $2.9 million.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR SENIORS BEING BUILT IN ST. JAMES
Low to moderate income seniors will have access to more affordable housing with the development of 24 apartments in a new, four storey building that is part of the St. James Kiwanis Manor redevelopment project underway in the Silver Heights area at 135 Sinawik Bay. Funding of $960,000 is being provided by the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg through the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI).

FUNDING ALLOWS TEEN STOP JEUNESSE AND PARTNERS TO OFFER MORE SERVICES IN ST. VITAL
Services for youth and adult learners, child care and other supports that reach people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless will be improved with the expansion of Teen Stop Jeunesse and the co-location of five community agencies in one building. The project is being made possible with $953,000 in funding support from the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg through the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI).

GOVERNMENTS PROVIDE OVER $2.6 MILLION TO HELP WINNIPEG'S HOMELESS
Seven local organizations will receive over $2.6 million to provide affordable transitional housing for refugees and new immigrants to Winnipeg, as well as improve facilities and expand services for youth, individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. The projects are being made possible with funding support from the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg through the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI).

Funding enables conversion of historic house and expanded services for people with HIV/AIDS
Representatives from three levels of government today participated in the official opening of the newly-renovated House of Hesed (Hebrew word for "mercy"), a transition house for persons with HIV/AIDS who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Winnipeg. The house is the only one of its kind in the province.

IN WEST BROADWAY NEIGHBOURHOOD
Low to moderate income residents in the West Broadway neighbourhood will have access to an additional 45 units of affordable housing with the rehabilitation of four vacant buildings, supported by over $1.2 million in funding from the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg through the Winnipeg Housing and Homelessness Initiative (WHHI).

WHHI FUNDS HOMELESS EMERGENCY SHELTER AND YOUTH PROGRAMS

PARTNERS OPEN FURNITURE DEPOT THAT ASSISTS WOMEN ESCAPING ABUSE AND POVERTY
Today's grand opening of the Oyate Tipi Cumini Yape furniture warehouse celebrates a unique partnership between the governments of Canada, Manitoba and Winnipeg; BMO Financial Group; the United Way of Winnipeg; and several community-based women's organizations. Together, they are helping women and their children escape poverty and abuse situations by providing used furniture and household goods for their new homes. Since opening the new site at 606 Selkirk Avenue, Oyate Tipi has already helped 130 + families rebuild their lives.
